Today, March 5th, the tenth amendment to the Nationality Law (Organic Law No. 1/2024) was published in the Diário de República, introducing several changes that will come into force on April 1st.
Contrary to what was initially expected, the possibility of obtaining Portuguese nationality through Sephardic ancestry will remain in force, as long as the following criteria are cumulatively met:
Producing evidence of belonging to a Sephardic community of Portuguese origin.
Having legally resided in Portuguese territory for a minimum period of three years, consecutive or interspersed, before submitting the nationality application.
